Last week I posted this photo from our recent trip to Florida. One of my reader's took it upon himself to create a lovely painting from the photo (which is shown above). A little bit about the man behind the design:
ABOUT THE ARTIST
WARREN CHARLES PLAUCHE’ MD FACOG
Dr. Plauche’ was educated in medicine at LSU. A self-trained fine arts painter for over 45 years, he began painting in the 1960’s while in Ob-Gyn specialty training. Early works were landscapes and seascapes in oil on canvas.
Dr. Plauche practiced OB-GYN in Biloxi, MS and was a “spare time” artist, occasionally displaying works in oils at Gulf Coast Art Association Shows.
In 1976, the artist, his wife and three children, moved to New Orleans, to begin an academic career at LSU’s School of Medicine. With more time for travel and art, the U.S., the Caribbean, and Europe presented many images to paint. The fields, markets, and villages in the south of France were favorite subjects in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s.
The artist sought a more casual style for travel paintings and studied watercolor painting with New Orleans artist, Constance Coogan, from 1996 to 2005. Watercolor and “ink and wash” techniques infuse recent paintings of scenes and objects in New Orleans, the U.S. Gulf Coast, Southwest, New England, and Virginia, Caribbean islands, and French countryside. Two new series appeared in the last few years - large flower pictures, and still-lifes of restaurant table settings that friends labeled “tablescapes”.
Dr. Plauche retired from LSU School of Medicine 1996 as Executive Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and later Academic Affairs.
Retirement yielded wonderful time to study and paint. Many paintings were shown on various websites and a few exhibitions. New paintings are generated from home studios in Harahan, LA and Snellville, GA at the rate of about one every week or two.
