One of my favorite places in Switzerland is tucked away about in the center of the country in the heart of the Bernese Oberland!
Some of the best things to see/do while in Luzerne:
1. Swan Square (Schwanenplatz)
2. Kapellplatz - site of St. Peter's Church built in 1178
3. Lots of shopping along Kapellgasse area
4. Kornmarkt - the Old Grain Exchange
5. Am-Rhyn-Haus which houses a Picasso collection
6. Kapellbrucke (Chapel Bridge) - is the symbol of Luzerne. The bridge was built in 1333 and partially destroyed by fire in 1993. Inside the Bridge are 122 paintings illustrating daily life and dress of the local people. The city of Luzerne spent $2.1 million to reconstruct the bridge and the paintings after the fire in 1993.
7. Spreuerbrucke (Mills Bridge) - the 2nd most famous bridge in Luzerne.
8. Muhlenplatz- old site of Luzerne's markets
9. Weinmarkt (wine market)
10. Hirschenplatz (Stag Square)
11. Panorama - Open only during Jul-August - one of the largest canvases in Europe - painted in 1889 by Edouard Castres depicting scenes from the Franco-Prussian War.
12. Lowendenkmal (Lion Monument)
13. The Kursaal - a casino and restaurant complex
14. Hofkirche (Collegiate Church of St. Leodegar)
15. Kurplatz for a wonderful view on a clear day
